Backup an MSSQL database – windows or Cloud hosting customers

This tutorial will supply steps to backing up of your MSSQL database using the freeware EMS SQL 2005 Manager Lite. You can download EMS SQL 2005 Manager Lite for SQL server here.

To create a .sql dump (backup) using EMS SQL 2005

Using the Extract Database Wizard you can extract database objects and data to the SQL script, e.g. for backup purposes. To open this wizard:

1. Select Tools.
2. Extract Database menu item from the menu bar.
3. Select Save to file.
4. Click Next.
5. Select Extract both structure and date.
6. Click Finish.

To restore .sql dump (backup) using EMS SQL 2005

Using the SQL script editor you can restore your database SQL script, e.g. for restoring your database .sql dump. To open the sql editor:

1. Select Tools.
2. New SQL editor item from the menu bar.
3. Click Load from File from the middle menu
4. Select the database .sql file from the local computer.
5. Click Execute query.

This will run your .sql script and restore all of your structure and data into the new database.
